Overview
On April 13, 2026, the Silken Windhound breed was added to the AKC Foundation Stock Service program (AKC FSS®). This is the first step towards full recognition in the Silken Windhound’s country of origin.
The AKC FSS® supports purebred dog breeds on the path to full recognition through increased visibility, support, and guidance from the AKC. The next step from the FSS is the Miscellaneous Class. At both stages we will be competing for Certificates of Merit in Conformation, as well as in select performance events. From the Miscellaneous Class we will work towards joining the ranks of the Hound Group as a fully accepted AKC breed.
Registering with AKC FSS®
The next step for Silken Windhound owners is registering your Silken Windhounds with the AKC FSS®. This is an opt-in process and not done automatically. To request your application, please visit the SWIFT program page and follow the instructions for each Silken Windhound you own.
The ISWS encourages owners to register all your eligble Silken Windhounds up to date of birth 1/1/2010 to help fill in the initial database. If you have semen stored from older Silken Windhounds, please register the Silken Windhound regardless of their age.
